Ceiling Renovation in Kitchen and Dining

The dropped popcorn ceiling collapsed in this customer's home. We came in to do the repair and the customer explained how they disliked the low ceiling and the old style popcorn. We suggested vaulting the ceiling and exposing the beams. We removed the existing popcorn ceiling and saved all the "blown in" insulation. The 6 beams were exposed. After removing 3 beams we reenforced the 3 existing beams. Next, we put Tyvek plastic over the rafters and blew the original insulation into the rafters. We purchased rough cut lumber, white-washed it and placed it over the plastic. We took some of the rough cut lumber planed, sanded, and stained it and used it to wrap the beams. When we took out the ceiling the end of the original part of the house was exposed which is rock. We chipped the rough mortar and rocks to smooth them, added more mortar, sprayed with clear coat sealant and built a shadow box to over the existing outside vent hole.
